Valenbisi
Guide
What if there was a healthier, faster way to get around the city?
You may not be aware of Valenbisi, Valencia’s short and long-term bike rental scheme. Valenbisi offers residents and visitors the opportunity to rent a bike for short periods at a very low price.
While Valencia is largely walkable, hopping on a bike can allow you to move between barrios much more quickly, or to make a quick trip to the beach by yourself.
How does it work?
First, you need to choose your Valenbisi package using the official website or app. Once you have paid for your plan, you can use the map built into the Valenbisi app to locate the nearest Valenbisi station.
You can select your bicycle through the app, and even check other users’ feedback to ensure that there are no problems with the bike.
Once you have acquired your bicycle, you have 30 minutes to reach your destination. After this period, you will be charged an additional fee for excess time. As such, Valenbisi is best suited to short trips within the city, although most areas of Valencia are easy to reach within the time limit.
Can tourists use Valenbisi?
Originally designed for residents with annual plans, Valenbisi now offers short term plans for visitors. A day ticket costs €3.99, and a week subscription is available for €13.30.
By contrast, a year-long subscription costs €29.21, with discounts available for older people and the unemployed.
Are there any drawbacks?
It’s worth bearing in mind that the Valenbisi station you’d like to select may well be empty, although the app should direct you to the nearest alternative. Some users have also complained that the bicycles are quite heavy. All cyclists should be aware of local laws and customs regarding road usage: cyclists are prohibited from riding on pavements and must give way to pedestrians and stop at traffic lights. Valencia does, however, have an extensive bicycle lane system, as well as the Turia Park which runs through the city.
